President Yoweri Museveni has appealed to leaders at all levels in the country to be in the vanguard and join hands with the government with regard to the wealth creation saying that by addressing the issue of household income, wananchi will have laid a strong foundation towards solving other attendant development matters such as education, electricity and unemployment, among others.
The President was yesterday addressing a group of people from the districts of Bulambuli and Sironko who had concluded their guided tour of the progressive farmers in Masaka and Kiruhuura districts at his country home in Rwakitura.
Mr. Museveni called on leaders, particularly those who are imbued with service delivery per se, to mind much about guiding and helping wananchi in wealth creation projects in homesteads. He stressed that service delivery alone cannot sufficiently bring development to the people. He said the people of Uganda should use the little available land wisely.
The President warned the people of Bugisu Sub-Region in particular and Ugandans at large to guard against continued land fragmentation. He encouraged wananchi to have a planned way of settlement so that they are able to leave aside land for production purposes only.
Mr. Museveni repeated his assurances on his commitment to resettle the remaining affected Bamasaba that were adversely affected by landslides that hit the populations along the slopes of Mt. Elgon. He strongly encouraged tree planting and production of crops that can hold the soils together to avoid further landslides along the slopes of Mt. Elgon.
Regarding issues of election violence that flared up in the two districts of Sironko and Bulambuli during the general elections, the President assured them that such behavior would be dealt with.
Energy and Minerals Minister, Hon. Irene Muloni, who led the joint delegation from the 2 districts, commended President Museveni for his good leadership and pro-wananchi development programmes that she attested were are designed to elevate the social status of wananchi through tackling head-on household poverty. She was optimistic that the study tour that the delegation from Sironko and Bulambuli districts made, would go a long way in benefiting the people of Bugisu Sub-Region to eradicate household poverty.
