President assures the nation of harmony in NRM leadership

Sunday 24th June 2012

The NRM leadership has today met in Rwakitura under the Chairmanship of President Yoweri Museveni who is also the National Chairman of the National Resistance Movement (NRM), to discuss a number of issues which have been in the press like the recent elections of the East African Legislative Assembly (EALA) Speaker, among others.

A statement issued this evening says the meeting was attended by the Speaker of Parliament Rt. Hon. Rebecca Kadaga; the Prime Minister, Rt. Hon. Amama Mbabazi; First Deputy Prime Minister, Hon. Eriya Kategaya; the Acting Chief Whip, Hon. Daudi Migereko; the National Vice-Chairman of NRM in charge of Eastern Region, Hon. Mike Mukula; Chairman for Kampala Region, Hon. Capt. Edward Francis Babu and the Vice-Chairman of NRM Parliamentary Caucus, Hon. David Bahati.

It was noted that a lot of inaccurate, distorted and misinformation, have been circulated in the media pointing to lack of harmony on the part of NRM leadership on this matter.

The statement further says that President Museveni and the National Chairman of NRM “would like to assure the entire country, that there is harmony in the leadership of NRM. What was important for Uganda in the EALA Elections was to have an EALA Speaker elected from the Ugandan representatives. This was achieved when Hon. Margaret Zziwa, who is also a Member of the NRM, was successfully elected and we once again congratulate her. His Excellency the President also assures the Nation that the relationship amongst the organs of the State and the NRM is very cordial.”
