European Union External Action Service MD commends Uganda for containing security situation in South Sudan and Somalia

State House Uganda - NewsState House Uganda - News President Museveni has this morning met and held talks with the European Union Head of Mission to Uganda, Ambassador Kristian Schmidt who called on him at his residence in Kyankwanzi.

The President is currently attending a 10-day retreat of the National Resistance Movement Caucus at the National Leadership Institute in Kyankwanzi District.

Mr. Museveni was briefed by his guest Ambassador Kristian Schmidt who was accompanied by the Managing Director European Union External Action Service, Mr. Nicholas James Westcott of the forthcoming 4th EU-Africa Summit slated for April 2014.

The meeting that will run under the theme "Investing in People, Prosperity and Peace" is aimed at strengthening the partnership between Europe and Africa.

It is also aimed at finding ways of building African capacity and stimulating growth that will create jobs among the youth by unlocking their productive and entrepreneurial potential.

President Museveni offered to prepare a paper on peace.

Mr. Westcott appreciated Uganda's input in containing the security situation in South Sudan as well as Uganda's contribution in Somalia.

The President informed his guests of the economic impact of the recent conflict in South Sudan but was glad to inform them that the situation is now normalising.
