President Yoweri Museveni has commended the Uganda Scouts Association for its investment drive in the Hotel industry.

“I thank the Uganda Scouts Movement for having woken up. This project is a good way of generating income for the Uganda Scouts Association,” he said.

The President made his remarks on saturday at the ground breaking ceremony of the Kampala Smart Hotel at the Uganda Scouts Association Headquarters, Buganda road.

He also launched the 2015 road map towards preparations for the Scouts Association Centenary Celebrations due in August 2015.

The Uganda Scouts Association is undertaking the US $ 22 million hotel project in partnership with Africa Youth Empowerment.

The President noted that the Scout Movement is a value based youth movement. He noted that values are very important adding that without values of personal discipline and helping colleagues, one cannot develop.

He observed that there are many people engaged in subsistence agriculture in the country and others living in urban areas are unemployed.

He revealed that the Ministry of Education is working on a plan to ensure that the youth are skilled.

President Museveni urged the scouts to share the values of discipline with other Ugandans and stressed the need for people in the villages to embark on modern commercial agriculture.

The President discouraged the practice of land fragmentation particularly after the demise of the family heads.

The Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Africa Youth Empowerment Mr. Billy Cheung Yiu Tung said they are proud to partner with the Scouts in the hotel project. He said that the hotel which will sit on 10,000 square meters of space will be managed by an International Hotel Management Company.

The Chief Scout, Professor Maggie Kigozi commended President Museveni for accepting to conduct the ground breaking ceremony. She revealed that the ceremony is part of the Baden Powel birthday celebrations that will be conducted at the new hotel on the 10th August 2015.
