President assures Turkish mineral investors

President Yoweri Museveni has received and held discussions with Turkish entrepreneurs who are interested in investing in Uganda’s mineral sector with a view to mining tin, copper and aluminium.

During the meeting that took place yesterday at the President’s country-home in Rwakitura, Kiruhuura district, Mr. Museveni, who warmly welcomed them to Uganda, assured them that the Government of Uganda is ready to join them as partners in order to ensure that the mining sector becomes economically beneficial to the people of Uganda.

The Turkish delegation was led by Mr. Muhammet Cengiz, who is the Overseas Investment and Business Development Manager.

The meeting was also attended by the Turkish Ambassador to Uganda Mr. and Mr. Fadil Yazici, the Project Manager.

Turkey, with a population of over 71 million, possesses a variety of mineral resources and one of the world’s major minerals producers.

A recent report indicates that Turkey which lies astride the European and Asian continents fetched nearly $900m from exports of steel and iron bars alone.
