Over Shs 50m in cash and pledges was raised from a charity walk for the construction of a multiÂfloor classroom block at Buddo Junior School in Wakiso district.
The Vice President, Edward Kiwanuka Ssekandi, who presided over the drive contributed Shs 10m towards the project expected to cost over Shs 500m.
Ssekandi who was also a chief walker at the charity walk challenged former students of Buddo Junior School to market the school, by supporting and identifying with its cause wherever they are called upon.
He observed that with a current pupil population of over one thousand pupils, Buddo Junior requires every ones’ support to decongest the classrooms and dormitories and also staffroom and library to provide friendly learning environment at the school.
He thanked the parents, teachers and wellÂwishers who have stood with the school even with the difficult times the school went through and the school management for impressive academic performance.
The Chairman of the school management committee, Rev. Canon Jonathan Kisawuzi, said when constructed, the new classroom block estimated to be completed in six months, will go along way in reducing on the congestion in the school.
Wakiso district LC5 Chairman Matiya Lwanga Bwanika said the district is committed in supporting the project adding, that the district will provide engineering services whenever needed.
