Government to intervene in Red Cross management challenges – President Museveni

President Yoweri Museveni who is also the Patron of the Uganda Red Cross Society has said government will intervene and follow up on the matter of the internal management crisis in the Uganda Red Cross.

The President was today meeting the Vice President of International Federation of the Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies Dr. Abbas Gullet in a meeting that took place at the President’s office at Parliament Building in Kampala. Dr. Abbas Gullet is also the Secretary General of Red Cross Kenya.

The President and the visiting Vice President discussed a range of issues pertaining to the internal management concerns about the challenges that have been faced by the Red Cross society in Uganda.

Dr. Abbas requested the President to intervene in the internal management challenges of the society. The President directed Hon. Professor Tarsis Kabwegyere the Minister in Charge of General Duties, Office of the Prime Minister to immediately follow up on the matter

The URCS has had various challenges with some top managers facing accusations of operating a business company linked to the organization under unclear circumstances and it is feared the society could have lost money in the transactions.

An International Probe Committee (IPC) was also constituted to investigate allegations of smuggling of goods worth 800m were also made against Red Cross former boss Michael Richard Nataka.
