President Yoweri Museveni has today met and held discussions with the SPLA in opposition team led by Gen. Alfred Lado Gore over peace efforts in South Sudan.
The meeting that was arranged by the Uganda Peace Support team set up to broker peace talks in the ongoing conflict in South Sudan and led by Gen. Salim Saleh is aimed at supporting efforts to restore peace and tranquility in South Sudan.
The team is pushing for the conflict to be resolved amicably in a negotiated settlement.
According to Mabior Garang de Mabior, their meeting with President Museveni comes ahead of a scheduled meeting with their Principal Dr. Riek Machar. He said their objective is to explore the prospects of peace in South Sudan. He described the meeting as successful.
Their team also included Dr. Dhiew Mathok (Chair External Relations), Mabior Garanga de Mabior (Chair Information and Public Relations), Amb. Otim David (Representing Uganda) and Col. Elijah Tut (Security and National Secretary).
The Uganda Peace Support team is led by Gen. Salim Saleh and includes Sagal Abram Emong (Chairman), Amb. Busho Ndinyenka (Vice Chair/Lead facilitator), Dr. Arthur Byamugisha (Consultant), Comrade Ndiwalana Herbert (Coordinator/Emissary), Aziz Buwedeewo (Secretary) and Major F. Chalo Achaye (Member).
According to Gen. Salim Saleh, the team is dedicated and willing to go an extra mile to ensure that peace and tranquility is restored in South Sudan.
The coordinator Ndiwalana Herbert said their strong conviction is to use dialogue and not guns to settle the conflict in South Sudan.
