President Museveni and the OIC’s Madani discuss unity, development

President Yoweri Museveni has called on the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) to increase investments in member state countries especially in the areas of infrastructure development saying this would boost economic development especially in the East African region.

The President was today meeting the Secretary General of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) Mr. Iyad Ameen Madani at State House Nakasero.

President Museveni and Mr. Madani stressed the need for unity among countries and the fight against extremist and sectarian ideologies that tear communities apart. The President said Uganda would be in danger if he used sectarianism to lead the country.

Mr. Madani said the economic potential for the East African region would be great especially if Sudan and South Sudan join East African countries to form a strong economic unit that can attract investments.

He thanked President Museveni for giving him the opportunity to discuss some of the issues and for the cordial welcome.

The meeting was attended by the Minister of State for Foreign Affairs(International Affairs) Hon. Okello Oryem and Uganda`s Ambassador to Saudi Arabia Dr. Rashid Yahya Ssemuddu among others.
