President Yoweri Museveni has received H.E Teodro Obiang Nguema Mbasogo of Equatorial Guinea at State House, Entebbe at the start of a 2-day official visit to Uganda at the invitation of his Ugandan counterpart.
President Yoweri Museveni has praised the leadership of Kampala-based Kyambogo University for the new innovations exhibited at the stalls at today’s graduation ceremony in the University Campus describing them as a renaissance that Africa needs.
“In Kyambogo you are beginning to wake up. There is actually renaissance at Kyambogo. Kyambogo has got out of Kulambala (sleep),” he observed.
Over 70 professionals in enrolled Nursing, Midwifery, pharmacy, laboratory techniques, records and information management in Iganga District have been commissioned by President Yoweri Museveni. The graduands were awarded Diplomas and Certificates in Clinical Medicine, 3 years after the launching of the Institute.
President Yoweri Museveni has called on leaders, especially the political, administrative and those in the judiciary, to support the expansion of the 4 sectors that create wealth to help the people get out of material needs which is one of the main causes of corruption.
President Yoweri Museveni has assured the French business community of abundant investment opportunities in Uganda.
“We have got several business opportunities. Uganda is endowed with phosphates and iron ore,” he said.
President Yoweri Museveni has said that the two major causes of teenage pregnancies are bad cultural practices and poverty adding that there is need to define the challenges properly.
President Yoweri Museveni has asked tax authorities in Uganda to stop levying tax on subsistence economies as the people doing petty businesses merely eke for a living.
President Yoweri Museveni has re-emphasized the need for African Governments to emphasize transformation of their societies in order to address the challenges of gender equality along with other pertinent issues of gender-based violence.
President Yoweri Museveni received and held a meeting with the European Union delegation in Uganda led by the European Union Ambassador to Uganda H.E. Attilio Pacifici.
The European envoys that included the heads of missions of Belgium, France, Germany, Denmark, Spain, Ireland, Italy, Hungary, Iceland, Netherland, Poland, Austria and Sweden met the President at State House Entebbe.
The President made the remarks today in Nairobi, Kenya where he joined other leaders at the International Conference on Population and Development (ICPD 25).
The three-day conference is being marked 25 years after the inaugural summit in Cairo, Egypt that made a case for gender equality and supporting advancement of women and girls.
